La papa tiene un alto valor nutricional, es fácil de preparar, muy versátil para elaborar una cantidad infinita de platos y es delicioso al paladar. A pesar de estas características, se busca rescatar su presencia en la alimentación diaria ya que su consumo per cápita se ha estabilizado en 87 kilos por persona al año al 2006 y se quiere promover su mayor consumo.

El Día Nacional de la Papa el año 2007 se celebrará en Lima metropolitana y en 19 regiones productoras de papa como antesala a la celebración del Año Internacional de la Papa 2008 en coordinación con los gobiernos regionales, los gobiernos locales, las instituciones públicas y privadas, las ONG’s, los productores organizados, las universidades, las escuelas de gastronomía, las cámaras de comercio y otras instituciones regionales.

Es importante recalcar que la FAO ha declarado el 2008 como el Año Internacional de la Papa gracias a una iniciativa peruana. La comisión multisectorial de celebración está presidida por el Ministerio de Agricultura.

Every May 30 it is celebrated the National Day of the Papa by Supreme Resolution N º 009-2005-AG. This year will reinforce the identity of the potato showing that it is 100% peruvian product, who originated in Peruvian Andes and turned into food source of the whole world.

Papa has a high nutritional value, it is easy to prepare, very versatile to elaborate an infinite quantity of dishes and is delicious to the palate. In spite of these characteristics, one seeks to rescue his presence in the daily nourishment since his consumption per capita has become stable in 87 kg for person a year 2006 and his major consumption wants to be promoted.

The National Day of the Papa the year 2007 will be celebrated in metropolitan Lima and in 19 producers regions of “papa” as anteroom to the celebration of the International Year of the Papa 2008 in coordination by the regional governments, the local governments, the public and private institutions, the ONG’s, the organized producers, the universities, the schools of gastronomy, the chambers of trade and other regional institutions.

It is important to stress that the FAO has declared 2008 as the International Year of the Papa thanks to a Peruvian initiative. The multisectorial commission of celebration is presided by the Peruvian Department of Agriculture.
